For shop-a-holics, Amsterdam is the place to be. Antiques, books, unique odds and ends, and flowers can be found throughout the city. Many shopping areas are restricted to pedestrian use only, making the shopping experience all the more enjoyable.
Nieuwedijk begins near Centraal Station, the city's main transportation hub. No vehicles are allowed in this one-kilometer area of gift shops, music and clothing shops. The road ends at Dam Square, where Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum, the Royal Palace and the magnificent NH Grand Hotel Krasnopolsky all sit.
