Rijksmuseum
Known as the largest museum in the world with more than a million visitors every year, it is also the largest in size of collections, building, budget and number of staff employed. It is internationally renowned for its exhibitions and publications. It is open daily from 10AM to 5PM.
Van Gogh Museum
This museum houses the biggest collection of 200 paintings and 550 sketches from Vincent Van Gogh. It is located near the Rijksmuseum and is open daily from 10AM to 6PM.
Begijnhof
This is an enclosed courtyard with a quiet garden surrounded by old houses in the center of town. It was originally built as a sanctuary for a Catholic sisterhood who lived like nuns. It is open daily from 9AM to 1PM.
Oude Kerk
Literally translated as Old Church, the Oude Kerk is an old Protestant church with little houses on its side is a calm heaven at the heart of the Red Light District. It is also known as the oldest church in Amsterdam. From Monday to Saturday, it is open from 11AM to 5PM while on Sundays, it is only open from 1PM to 5PM. It is also closed on December 25 and January 1.
