Museums In Amsterdam

There are more than 50 museums in Amsterdam. There is the unique and curious, like the Hash, Marijuana and Hemp Museum, the distinctly cultural, like the Houseboat Museum, to the historical and deeply moving, like the Anne Frank House. The Rijksmuseum is the nation's largest museum. This, along with the Van Gogh and Stedelijk museums, are known for their impressive collections of artwork, with the latter consisting primarily of modern art.

The Heineken Experience and Ajax Museum are dedicated to two Dutch passions, beer and soccer. The Erotic Museum and Sex Museum are located, of course, in and near the Red Light District. The Torture Museum is small and dark, featuring displays of some of the most horrific methods and tools of human torture known to man.

There are museums dedicated to energy, wax figurines (the famous Madame Tussauds), history and of course, film, which is another passion of the Dutch people. Kids may enjoy NEMO, the fun and interactive museum of science and technology, housed in a building shaped like a boat.
