Nightlife
For most travelers, the nightlife of the cities where they go to is also important. In Amsterdam just right after the quiet evening hours, a whole area of town called the Red Light District is crowded with tourists walking in the streets and nearby restaurants, and cafes are full of people.
There is also a place called Leidseplein where you can find the city theatre, cafes, restaurants, cinemas, casinos and the famed cultural and music centers like Sugar Factory, Paradiso and Melkweg that offers various music programs. Another busy area during the night time is Rembrandtplein with a square surrounded by clubs, cafes and cinemas that are always full of guests. In most places around this area, it is very easy to meet new people and make new friends.
Most coffee shops all around Amsterdam are open till midnight and they offer soft drugs for people over 18 years of age. But buying any kind of drugs from the street is dangerous and illegal and might also get you arrested. Prostitution in Amsterdam is also legal as the Dutch government started to tax it. There are large numbers of brothels in Amsterdam but the most well known area is the so called Red Light District. The Red Light District is the most famous place to go to at night while your in Amsterdam, it is a mostly harmless place where everyone including prostitutes live together just fine.
Taking pictures in this area is strictly prohibited and a serious breach of etiquette. Usual safety precautions when you are in an unfamiliar place are also applicable on the Red Light District. Always secure your money and your valuables and always remember to never buy drugs anywhere but a coffee shop.
