Amsterdam is a city rich in cultural history and classic architecture. There are more than 50 museums from which to choose, and millions of visitors enter the doors each year. Museum offerings include everything from the Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh Museum to the Hash Marijuana Hemp Museum. The Anna Frank House offers a tour of the building where the now-famous young Jewish girl, Anne Frank, hid with her family, friends and beloved diary in an effort to escape Nazi persecution during World War II.
The Oude Kerk, or "old church", is one of the city's limited number of buildings dating back to the early 13th Century. The church is flanked on either side by small houses and is located in the heart of the city's infamous Red Light District. This district offers a heady mix of alcohol, partying and sex.
The city's beautiful canals can facilitate a lovely boat tour through the stately architecture looming above. Tours can be relaxing by day or romantic by night, when the buildings and bridges are glowing with lights. The canals have earned Amsterdam the nickname "The Venice of the North".
