The Dutch culture is so appreciative of film that Amsterdam hosts three film festivals every year, each with a different focus. The Capoeira Film Festival celebrates the dance, music and martial arts of black Africans living in Brazil. All films at this three-day festival in January are shown in Portuguese with English subtitles.
The Amsterdam Fantastic Film Festival is a weeklong event each April focusing on anime, fantasy, thriller, horror and sci-fi films. The International Documentary Filmfestival of Amsterdam features 200 documentary films and videos for two weeks beginning in late November. It is a must-see for any true film buff.
