There are many apartments throughout Amsterdam available for short-term lease. These can provide an ideal arrangement for large families or groups of people who are combining financial resources to pay for the trip. There are travel agencies that may provide assistance in finding these arrangements. There is also the “vacation rentals” category of the online classifieds web site, www.craigslist.com, where 1-bedroom apartments can be found for as little as 90 Euros per night.

The apartments are generally very comfortable and chic, ranging in size from studio flats to multi-story luxury dwellings. Especially with the less expensive apartments, there will be no elevator and guests must climb stairs in true Dutch fashion. The apartments are usually equipped with washing machine and dryer, television, full bathroom, fully equipped kitchen, and sometimes even wireless Internet.

The apartments may be rented for any number of nights, but usually two at a minimum. Some apartments have staggered pricing per person, with discounts for larger groups of guests. They are generally located very close to Amsterdam’s main attractions and can provide a comfortable, cozy and unique alternative to a hotel with more privacy than a youth hostel.

There are more than 310 accommodations in Amsterdam. For those planning to enjoy their vacation in luxurious style, there are several historic landmark hotels from which to choose. The NH Grand Hotel Krasnopolsky is among the oldest and most elegant of the upscale offerings. Located on Dam Square and facing the Royal Palace, the Krasnopolsky is the largest 5-star hotel in Amsterdam. The hotel’s name derives from its original owner, Adolph Wilhelm Krasnopolski, a Polish tailor who started the business endeavor with a café and a few rooms. In the late 18th Century, this hotel was considered an innovative leader as the first Amsterdam hotel to offer guests electricity, warm water and telephones in each room. It is still considered a leader today in terms of luxury and customer service.

The Amstel Hotel is another luxurious 5-star accommodation, this one located outside of the city’s center. About a 20-minute walk from the city’s most popular museums, this hotel offers a view of the Amstel River on one side or Professor Tulppleinn Square on the other side. This hotel is very popular among celebrities and jet-setters.

Of course, there are plenty of quaint hotels sprinkled throughout the city. Even travelers on a budget can find a unique lodging experience in Amsterdam with the Qbic, which offers nouveau-style cube-shaped rooms. The futuristic design offers a compact living space that is brilliantly rendered and the lighting color can change to suit a person’s mood. Best of all, the price is in keeping with the hotel’s motto: “The Smart Way to Stay for the Budget Conscious Traveller”.

For younger travelers taking in Amsterdam alone or in small groups, a youth hostel may be an appropriate alternative to a hotel. Though not known for their privacy or peace and quiet, youth hostels offer a highly cost-effective lodging option for students and recent graduates. They are dormitory-style accommodations with common kitchen areas, lounging areas and often a common bathroom as well. No matter your budget, there is a way to make that trip to Amsterdam happen.

The NH Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky in Amsterdam has been around for about 150 years. Polish tailor Adolf Wilhelm Krasnapolski arrived in the Netherlands in 1856 and opened the Polish Cafe with adjacent rental rooms that would eventually grow into the esteemed Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky.

This hotel has a fine reputation for excellent customer service and quality accommodations. Its location in Dam Square, facing the Royal Palace, is in the midst of Amsterdam’s prime attractions. It is the largest five-star hotel in the Netherlands with 468 rooms, seven suites, 36 apartments and thre restaurants. It also features a meeting area for conventions. But don’t let the size of this hotel fool you. The staff at the Krasnapolsky never fail to provide each guest with a hospitable welcome and top-notch service. Its classic atmosphere and attention to detail is balanced with a comfortable and friendly vibe.

The Krasnapolsky was always a leader in innovation, being the first hotel in Amsterdam to offer guests warm water, electricity and in-room telephones. Today, it is still a leader in customer service.
